IGCSE History gives you insight into the present social economic and political climate by understanding the events that led up to it, particularly those of the 20th century. The combination of knowledge and skills in Cambridge IGCSE (9–1) History gives learners a solid foundation for further study.

You will explore what caused the European revolutions of 1848 which changed the shape of the continent, The First World War, the conflict between Israel and Palestine and Russian history. You will also develop critical reasoning skills and the ability to question primary sources.


Upon successful completion of the exam and practical assessments (as administered by CIE ), you will have achieved an internationally recognised Cambridge CIE IGCSE History (0977) qualification.Learn more.

This course is divided into 3 units:

Unit 1:History 1

Exam Availability:  June

Written examination: 2 hours

Written paper, answer two questions on either the 19 th  or 20 th  century core content topics.

In Section B candidates answer one question on one depth study. 40% of the total marks available.

Unit 2: History 2

Exam Availability:  June

Written examination: 2 hours

Written paper, answer two questions on either the 19 th  or 20 th  century core content topics.

33% of the total marks available.

Unit 3: History 3

Exam Availability: June

Written examination: 1 hour

Written paper, answer one question on one in-depth study based on historical sources.

27% of the total marks available.

Unit 1: History

Module 1: 19th century core content: what caused the First World War?

Module 2: In-Depth Study Russia 1905-1941

Module 3: 20th century core content: International Relations since 1919

Module 4: In-Depth Study: Israelis and Palestinians 1945-1994

The CIE IGCSE History qualification is gained once the three exam papers are successfully completed. These exams are administered by CIE and assessment centre details will be included with your course, as well as practice papers so that you are more than prepared for your assessments.

In addition, there will be a number of tutor marked assessments (TMAs) to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the course materials, with the tutor sending comments to guide you through any areas of potential difficulty, as well as a range of self-assessments that are indicators that you understand the materials as you work through them. These are for your own information, and do not need to be shown to your course tutor.

The course is primarily an online course using a Learning Management System (LMS).

The online course has many features that cannot be printed such as embedded videos, forums and interactive tests.

The course includes Tutor Marked Assessments which you access and submit through the online system.
